The IIT Patna has been engaged in the programs that count toward its social responsibility around its set up. Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the IIT Patna in collaborations with the Unicef office of Bihar organized a day long workshop on Right to Education Act (Bihar Rules). Several professionals, MHRD officials, school principals, teachers and activists from all parts of the city and neighboring districts of Patna participated in the workshop. Professor Anil K Bhowmick, the Director IIT Patna welcomed the participants at the IIT Patna. Ms Nisha Jha, Chairperson of the State Council for the Protection of Child Right was the chief guest of the workshop. Mr Rajesh Bhushan the State Project Director of the Bihar Education Project Council Anandpuri and Mr Hasan Waris, Director of the State Council for Educational Research and Training were among the speakers at the workshop. The resource person for the workshop included, Mr Vinod Raina, Mr Vinay Kanth of the East & West Patna, Mr Gyandeomani Tripathy, Principal Tapindu Education Institute and Ms Shweta Sandilya, the education specialist at the Unicef Office of Bihar.
In yet another attempt to the social responsibility of the IIT Patna, Dr Nalin Bharti, supervised a project on Knowledge community on children (KCCI) in India, Funded by UNICEF Office of Bihar, (with Rajesh Kumar, Smriti Singh, and Aditya Raj as co-PIs) KCCI Interns include Georgina Heaslop from the University of Queensland, Australia, Udayan Rathore from Gokhale Institute of
Politics & Economics, Pune, and Dr. Darinka DeSouza from D.Y.Patil University Mumbai. This resulted in a project publication of the Knowledge Centre on Children, Women and Gender entitled 'An Urban Bias: Exploring the Reach of Urban Basic Services in Slums of Patna' was published by the Unicef.
Faculty from the Department of Humanities and Social Science have participated in teachers’ training programs at the State Council of Educational Research and Training at Patna and have participated any many educational programs in and around Patna for lectures and as resource persons.
