Welcome to the Homepage of SERL

I am working as a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Patna. I joined IIT Patna as an Assistant Professor in March 2009. Prior to joining IIT Patna, I worked as a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Technion Israel Institute of Technology from July 2007 to February, 2009. I had also experience of working as a staff member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Guwahati and as a design engineer at M.T.I. (Pvt) Ltd. I completed B.E. (Mechanical) from Assam Engineering College, M.Tech. (fluid/thermal) and Ph.D. (Mechanical) from Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati.

Research Interest:
  • Computational fluid dynamics and heat transfer
  • Turbulence modeling
  • Two-phase flow in micro and minichannels
  • Dispersion of particles, droplets and bubbles at micro- and nano-scales
  • Rheological and heat transfer characteristics of viscoplastic fluids
  • Nuclear materials
  • Solar thermal technology

Attached Labs: Fluid Mechanics, Heat and Mass Transfer, Sustainable Energy Research Laboratory (SERL)

First two labs are basically for undergraduate students performing experiments on fluid mechanics, fluid machineries and heat transfer.

Sustainable Energy Research Laboratory (SERL): This lab is being developed with a target of undertaking research in renewable energy and two-phase flow. Focused areas are two-phase flows in microchannels for developing sustainable cooling solutions to electronic devices, analysis of nuclear clad materials, solar thermal technology etc.

The lab is involved with ongoing research on two-phase flow boiling in mini and microchannels, pool boiling, electrowetting, passive heat transfer enhancement techniques etc. In addition, research works have been also performed in analysis of flow and heat transfer in non-Newtonian fluids.

Research works undertaken in SERL are jointly initiated by Dr. Manabendra Pathak and Dr. Mohd. Kaleem Khan
