Who we are

Our Leader

Our team lead Dr. Anup Kumar Keshri is a world-class faculty member who have broad and diverse expertise in surface engineering, plasma spraying, CNT/graphene reinforced metal and ceramic composite coatings, mechanical, corrosion and tribological behavior of coatings, and 2D materials synthesis for energy storage applications. And the PSCL provides him with a research home purposefully designed to foster creative risk taking, interdisciplinary collaboration and professional growth. Dr. Keshri’s approach is to provide superior scientific tools and administrative support, allowing each lab member to spend more time focused on what really matters — their research.

Our Facilities

Our PSCL lab was established in 2013 at IIT Patna in the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. The PSCL lab houses world-class facilities for coating production, 2D material synthesis, and characterization. The PSCL is also outfitted with open, interconnected laboratories to allow for maximum cross-pollination of ideas.

Our Students & Trainees

We are committed to attentive mentorship of postdocs, Ph.D. scholars, postgraduate and undergraduate students, and to creating a climate for success that embraces everyone in our community. At any given time, about 25 students are working at the PSCL and making meaningful contributions to the lab’s discoveries. Our alumni have gone on to coveted positions in both academia and industry. And more recently, we’ve run an immersive summer internship program for undergraduate students from across the nation. Our goal is to train not just the next generation of scientists, but the next generation of scientific leaders.

Our Vision

Our vision is to perform applied and innovative research in thermal spraying (plasma spraying); advance and transfer newly created knowledge to other professionals, researchers and society; and develop cutting-edge technologies and products for wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and advanced ceramic membranes. Moreover, expand the capabilities of conventional coating plasma spraying to produce wonderful nanomaterials for a variety of industrial applications.

Our Mission

The development of practical technological and innovative solutions for wear resistance, corrosion resistance, advanced ceramic membrane applications, and the creation of nanomaterials for energy storage applications are all part of our mission to be a world-leading laboratory of excellence in thermal spraying coatings research, innovation, and commercialization.
