Overview and About Department:

Since its inception in 2008, our department has experienced remarkable growth, now proudly supporting over 300 undergraduate students and 80 graduate students. This dynamic academic community thrives under the guidance of 22 highly enthusiastic faculty members and 9 skilled technical staff.

Our department offers a comprehensive (1) Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering, (2) 5 Years, B.Tech. + M.Tech./MS (Dual Degree), (3) Master of Technology in Thermal and Fluids, (4) Master of Technology in Manufacturing, (5) Master of Technology in Mechanical Design, and (6) Master of Technology in Mechatronics streams. Additionally, our robust Ph.D. program boasts over fifty scholars engaged in cutting-edge research across various contemporary fields of Mechanical Engineering.

ME Overview

To date, more than 60 students have earned their Doctoral degrees from our program. These accomplished alumni have embarked on promising career paths, securing positions at leading industrial firms and prestigious academic institutions both nationally and internationally. Our graduates have become influential leaders, making significant contributions to their fields as faculty members, post-doctoral researchers, and industry professionals.

Our department continues to cultivate an environment of innovation, excellence, and collaboration, preparing the next generation of engineers to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.

The Department is at the forefront of groundbreaking research and innovation, exploring diverse multidisciplinary fields such as surface engineering, soft-tissue mechanics, non-traditional manufacturing, laser material processing, condition monitoring, biomedical robotics, biomedical bone drilling, computational mechanics, fracture mechanics, finite element modelling, composites, fire dynamics, micro- and nano-scale heat transfer, boiling, condensation, two-phase flows, refrigeration and air-conditioning, computational fluid dynamics, hypersonic and rarefied gas flows, colloids and interfacial science, soft computing, and microgravity research, among others.

Our cutting-edge research is supported by 16 state-of-the-art research and teaching laboratories, providing the ideal environment for pioneering studies and advanced learning. The Department's vibrant research ecosystem is evidenced by a significant number of patents and publications in leading multidisciplinary journals.

Moreover, the Department has secured over 30 crores in funding through sponsored projects and consultancy works from prestigious government and industry agencies. These include the Aeronautics Research Development Board (ARDB), Board of Research in Nuclear Science (BRNS), Defence Research Development Organization (DRDO), Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeITY), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), General Electric, Tata Hitachi, Bajaj, Honda, and many others.

This substantial support underscores the Department's commitment to excellence and its pivotal role in advancing technology and innovation. By continually pushing the boundaries of research, we prepare our students and faculty to lead in their respective fields, making impactful contributions to science and industry worldwide.

Vision:

The department aims to train the young undergraduate minds into dynamic and technically sound professionals capable of dealing with real world problems of industry as well as the academic research. Vision of the department is to produce high quality engineers who can engage in the frontiers of the field and channelize the state-of-the-art knowledge to solve problems of relevance to the country and society at large. While imparting high-quality education, emphasis is laid on taking up innovative ideas from concept to final product development via the route of fundamental research, feasibility studies, technology improvement, demonstration, and product development. Further, the department wishes to fulfill these objectives through our state-of-the art facilities and well-trained and qualified faculty and staff members.
